Well, now what. The marathon came and went and I’m now in recovery mode and I’m really sucking at it. After the Baltimore Marathon last year, I followed the book when it came to recovery. This year, not at all. And you know what, I can really feel the difference. Proper recovery really does help. Continue reading

38th Marine Corps Marathon 2013 – Race Recap (The Power of Four)
Whenever there is so much for me to say about something, I end up with writers block. My brain is in information overload and I want to tell you every detail, but I’m still foggy. Frustrating. The 38th Marine Corps Marathon was challenging for me. I went with four of my running friends and stayed on the fourth floor at the Ritz Carlton in Arlington. My target race time was 4:45:00 and I clocked in at 4:44:44. Do you see a trend setting? Not sure what was up with the number four, maybe it’s because I turned 40 last week, but it seemed to be my lucky number. Continue reading
MCM Race Recap – Coming soon…
MCM Eve – 10 hours before the race
Here is its, the night before the big race. After taking care of stuff at home my friend and I headed to Arlington. This time I drove…no need to have any metro incidences again. We are so EXCITED about tomorrow! I have no idea how I’m going to sleep! The Bitstrip totally reflects how we’re feeling.
MCM Countdown – Packet Pick-up – (Seinfeld Episode in the Making)
WHERE DO I BEGIN?! There’s so much to tell you, but I’m completely exhausted, so I will just give you the highlights. I am SO glad we decided to head down to DC today for packet pick up instead of waiting until tomorrow. What started out to be about a half day event ended up taking the entire day, hence the late blog. My friend and I decided to take the train from Baltimore, then catch the Metro to the DC Armory instead of driving in the DC traffic. Catching Amtrak was easy enough, but getting on the Metro…well, that’s another story. Continue reading
MCM Training – Four Days Left – Don’t Reach for Toilet Paper.
Last night was the last track workout of this training season. I almost didn’t make it. In fact, an incident yesterday morning had me in a panic and for a moment, I thought my race was jeopardized. Yesterday morning, I threw my back out while I was in the bathroom…and just so you know, I was not in the shower. I made a reach for the toilet paper and BAM! Wonked out back. Continue reading
MCM Training – This is it! (Last long run)
Well this is it. On so many levels, this is it. Saturday was our last long run before the marathon. I typically write about my long runs within 24 hours, but I was also celebrating my 40th birthday this weekend. As of yesterday, I am officially in a new age bracket. Everything I do this week will be a first in my 40th decade. First track workout, first tempo run, first personal training session, first taper (which I’ve been doing since I was 39), and first marathon in a new age bracket. While I’m a little freaked out about 40, I’m actually embracing it too. I’m just not liking the whole “your body falls apart at 40” thing. But anyway, I digress…running…let’s get back to running. Yankz! Sure Laces Review
When Yankz! sent over Sure Laces to try, I couldn’t wait to try them out. But, I decided to ask a fellow runner who has been using elastic laces a lot longer than I have. I figured her extensive experience with elastic laces would provide a more valuable review than mine. I’d like to thank Bernadette for taking these out for a try and for writing this review!
I’m a long time user of elastic laces, so I was excited to be asked to do a guest review of Yankz! Sure Laces. I’ve heard a lot about these laces and really wanted to try them. Continue reading
Tapering – Mistakes to Avoid and Nutrition
Tapering during a marathon can make or break race results. Tapering is when you cut back on your mileage a couple of weeks before your race to rest the body so that it can perform on race day. “Reducing your total weekly volume by 20 to 25 percent during this week gives your body a chance to recover from all that hard work by restocking depleted glycogen supplies and repairing tissue damage.” {source} Continue reading
Put Me in a Plastic Bubble! I’m Tapering!
Why is it that everytime I get close to a race that’s important to me EVERYONE around me is sick?!?! The folks in the office are sick…almost ALL of them, my nephew is sick, and last night my husband tells me he is sick, AFTER I gave him a quick kiss. He said, “uh-oh…forgot to tell you I’m getting sick. I have a sore throat.” WHAT?????!!!! Are you kidding me?! Couldn’t tell me this BEFORE you gave me your germs? Continue reading
