So. I think the universe is out to get me or something. With the recent illnesses and mishaps, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a conspiracy against me. Why universe? WHY??? So today was the day that I was going to get back in the game. The plan was to get some hot yoga in in the morning, then head on over to Oregon Ridge for some hill training with the group. Here We Go Again!

Well, sort of. I haven’t been officially accepted in the JFK 50 Miler race, but training starts tomorrow! This past weekend I ran two back to back runs for a total of 20 miles to get me in training mode. Up until a few days ago, the Taroko Gorge Marathon in Taiwan was my target Fall race. When I received an email from the race directors stating that the marathon is still not officially on, I decided I needed to quickly decide on another target race. I thought about running the Baltimore Marathon again so that I can run it with my sole sisters, but honestly, I think deep down I really, REALLY wanted another ultra. Continue reading

Friday’s Tip of the Week – Speed Work

Aaahhh…the quest for speed! At some point in your running life, you’re going to have the desire to increase your speed. Some have stronger desires than others, and some who don’t think they’d ever care at all will eventually find that they want a new personal best. There are many things that you can do to increase your speed and they range from fartleks (and yes, I snicker every time I say it), interval training, track work, drills, and tempo runs. MCM Training – Four Days Left – Don’t Reach for Toilet Paper.

Last night was the last track workout of this training season. I almost didn’t make it. In fact, an incident yesterday morning had me in a panic and for a moment, I thought my race was jeopardized. Why is it that everytime I get close to a race that’s important to me EVERYONE around me is sick?!?! The folks in the office are sick…almost ALL of them, my nephew is sick, and last night my husband tells me he is sick, AFTER I gave him a quick kiss. Week 15 – Long Run (12 Miles and Killer Acorns and Geese)

Another strong long run for the books and I’ll take it any time I can get it. I would like to thank Mother Nature for giving us another beautiful day to run. Overcast, no humidity, upper 50’s lower 60’s. But I’d like to ask Mother Nature to keep her acorns and attack geese to herself. I missed getting hit in the head with one and my friend had the unfortunate luck to step on on one and wipe out. It’s a good thing that Carrie’s bad ass because she took the wipe out like a champ, despite spraining her ankle, busting up her knee and elbow, and braking her Garmin <gasp!>. Continue reading
